Peace & Social Concerns Committee
The Peace & Social Concerns Committee receives and brings to the attention of the Meeting current information on matters that relate to Friends peace and social justice testimonies. In reference to these issues in our localities and neighboring states, our nation, and in the international community, the Committee sponsors and recommends to the Monthly Meeting actions and continuing activities that can be taken by the Meeting as a whole or by individual members and attenders. It also provides information to Friends facing choices relating to military service.
The Committee designates a contact with Amnesty International, a world wide movement to promote the human rights stated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international standards. Since 1979, the contact has organized the Meeting participation in Amnesty International's letter-writing campaign to help to free political prisoners who have non-violently opposed their governments.
The Committee also has under its care the Hunger and Homelessness Task Force.
