Be a Supporting Adult Presence

We’re so glad you are considering volunteering at First Day School!  Every First Day School class has two volunteer adults, the Leading Adult Presence and the Supporting Adult Presence.  Additionally, our Youth Coordinator helps with all classes as needed.

To Be a Supporting Adult Presence:

Prepare:

  • Connect with your Leading Adult Presence at least a few days before to introduce yourself and have a chance to talk over the lesson plan and any particular ways they might want support.

  • Our policies do require a background check for any adult volunteering with our children.  Please contact the Youth Coordinator soon to submit your information.  It's a very quick and easy process.

The Day Of:

  • Please arrive by 10:15 to help encourage any lingering meetings to clear the children’s spaces and prepare for class.

  • Support the Leading Adult Presence in whatever ways you have discussed or become clear are needed.  For instance, you might help hand out supplies, welcome late arriving children, sit next to a disruptive child, or teach a game to some kids while the Leading Adult Presence is supervising a craft activity with others.

Afterwards, Please Share:

  • Please email to the Youth Coordinator any thoughts you have on how to improve the program in general, this lesson in particular, or the experience of being a Supporting Adult Presence.

Thank you!
